Running transforms lives. We’ve seen it, and this program is designed to make it accessible for EVERYONE. Focused on the “complete” beginner, Start with a Step gets you started on the path towards a more active lifestyle. This program is perfect for those who are intimidated by the idea of getting in shape but would like to start. At Start with a Step, you will be supported by motivating coaches in a welcoming atmosphere. This is a great option for corporate wellness groups as well!
You are not expected to have any previous running experience, or even be able to run 30 seconds without a break. Keep in mind, if you can run 30-60 seconds or have previous athletic experience, Running 101™ is probably a better fit. All participants will receive commemorative program swag!
The 6-week Start with a Step program seeks to get you started walking with some short jog/run sections, eventually increasing the amount to more intense efforts. The goal is to complete a mile by the end of the program, with at least a portion of it done running.
We encourage you to attend as many days as your schedule permits – each location will offer different days and times (and sometimes different venues) including a weekend morning.
A typical 45-minutes session will include active warm-up, stretching, a walk/jog/run component, and post-workout discussion on relevant training topics like running technique, hydration, motivation, and more. The active walking/running component of the training is supplemented with stretching and conditioning, but first and foremost this program is about walking and running — not a boot camp or conditioning class.
No matter where you start, you can gain fitness with this program. Once you complete Start with a Step you have options. Choose to repeat the program again with the goal of running more of the mile or increasing your pace in the mile. If you have moved to a new level of fitness and are looking to run longer, graduate to the Running 101, =PR= Interval, or =PR= Fit program.
