Fitness Walking is ideal for someone just getting started on their fitness journey or the person looking to increase their pace or distance. Participants should be comfortable being on their feet for at least a half hour. The 8-week Fitness Walking program is offered in multiple sessions from spring – fall each year. The Fitness Walking program will help you gradually increase your walking volume and pace, while focusing on proper technique and a strong fundamental base. By the end of the program you will be prepared to walk a 5K distance.
Participants also receive guidance on what to do on their own for days the group does not meet. A typical session will combine instruction on proper form, stretching and how to build endurance. No matter your starting point, you can gain fitness with this program. When you complete Fitness Walking you can choose to repeat it again, or, if you have moved to a new level of fitness and are setting time and improvement goals you may want to consider trying Running 101, which has a run/walk component.
